  SWC HealthWorks and Drug Testing

SWC HealthWorks can assist your company in establishing a sound drug testing program. We can travel to your worksite and conduct specimen collections. We provide urine drug screening analysis. We will assist you in establishing a program or review your existing program so that you are secure in the knowledge that it is legal and effective.

We can assist you in developing your Federally Mandated DOT random drug and alcohol screen programs also. If you are a small firm and would like to join a consortium in order to decrease testing and program costs we have several options available.

Or if you are a large firm that requires a total package, our computer-generated random selection and tracking service is cost effective and worry free.

How to Establish a Sound Drug Testing Program

Are you a company that has or is considering a drug testing program? You will need to evaluate the reasons why you are considering drug testing for applicants or employees of your company. Here are some reasons for establishing a drug testing program:

  1. Improve safety, reduce accidents, minimize workman's compensation and protect company assets
  2. Health concerns, reduce health insurance claims, minimize premiums and maximize human potential in productivity and creativity
  3. Reduce pilferage (employees stealing from company to support habit)
  4. Adhere to federal mandates D.O.T., D.O.D., etc.
  5. Satisfy public concern or reputation in the marketplace
You should state these goals in the opening paragraph of a company drug testing policy. The drug testing policy itself may be part of a comprehensive substance abuse policy. Clarify that the 'diagnostic tool' of drug testing will be used as a preventative rather than a punitive measure in meeting the above goals. You also should define the types of drugs that you will be testing for in your policy. Consider the relationship of each drug type to your outlined goals. How does the risk of its abuse impact your company adversely? Which drugs are you required to test, if any, under federal mandate? Below are the standard drug types:
  1. Marijuana (Cannabis)
  2. Cocaine
  3. Phencyclidine (PCP)
  4. Opiate (Heroin, Codeine, Morphine)
  5. Amphetamine (Benzedrine, Dexedrine)
  6. Benzodiazepine (Valium, Librium, Xanax)
  7. Barbiturate (Nembutal, Seconal)
  8. Propoxyphine (Darvon)
  9. Methadone (Dolophine)
  10. Ethanol (Alcohol)
